New Release: Savage Souls, by @thesmboyce

I’m a few days late in sharing this new release, but doesn’t mean you shouldn’t be excited about it! It’s a new book from S.M. BOYCE!!!

And this one’s a bit different than her Grimoire Saga or To Each His Ghost books. This new release, Savage Souls, was written within The Runes Universe, first established in Ednah Walters book Runes (and the Runes series that follows).

The Runes Universe is part of the Kindleworlds program and includes a number of other great authors writing a variety of different characters within the world Walter’s built. I hope you take a look at those, after checking out Boyce’s book.

Now I’ll let you go read more about the book. You’ll also find where you can grab a copy for yourself and where to find more about the other books in The Runes Universe below.

There are two things 18-year-old Cadence Murphy is proud of: she is an amazing Witch with the healing magic of nature, and she can run a five-minute mile. There’s just one tiny problem: an ancient darkness in her blood is messing with her healing abilities. When some very powerful, cruel men want to destroy her for it, she must tempt fate itself to stop them.

Discharged from the marines for bad conduct, 20-year-old Drew Richards uses his deadly skills to neutralize criminals and lowlifes… for a fee. So when a wealthy businessman offers half a million to kill some girl, Drew is more than willing—until he sees her, and his priorities change.

But the Norns—the weavers of fate—have decided Drew is destined to kill Cadence. Can he resist his destiny? Suspenseful, romantic, and rich with chilling magic, Savage Souls captures the essence of forbidden love—and the consequences that come with it.

The only thing Cara got for her eighteenth birthday was an unexpected invitation to move out of her uncle’s house. College isn’t an option for a poor girl with average grades, so when her best friend Riley finds them a mysterious job opportunity that includes room and board, Cara is interested but thinks it sounds too good to be true.

The night before their interview, Cara has an epic night out with Theo, an impossibly handsome guy she just met. He’s charismatic, a little mysterious, and it feels like she’s known him her whole life.

When she runs into him at her interview, he’s cold and elusive. He makes it very clear that he doesn’t want her working with him, which only makes their mutual attraction burn hotter. Cara takes the job for Riley’s sake and promises herself she’ll avoid this jerk and his mood swings, no matter how hard it is to keep away from him.

Soon she finds out her millionaire employers aren’t normal guys who live and travel in luxury. They’re immortals. Theo wasn’t trying to ruin her job prospects. He was trying to save her life, because the girls they hire never make it out alive.

Up until now, I’ve only read Amy Sparling’s YA contemporary romances. But with The Immortal Mark, things have changed. This is a paranormal romance, and apparently Sparling’s first, though I wouldn’t have known if I wasn’t told.

This is a great first book in what can turn into one of my favorite series. I see, from this book alone, much potential for follow-ups, that I’ll be eagerly awaiting their release.

What I found interesting was that for a good part of the beginning, this book had the contemporary feel from Sparling’s other books. She was able to establish her main characters, their motivations, the very real-life situation they’re in, and a possible solution to their troubles. Then BOOM, there’s a curveball and we’re on a paranormal adventure! I really liked how this was worked into the book because it felt fresh to me. And the timing was right because I’d gotten to know the characters the perfect amount before things changed for them.

I really hope the next book comes out sooner, rather than later, because I want to see where this series is going. I know it’ll be a great adventure.

#Review: Spellbound, by @Daisy_Prescott

“If you don’t carve a pumpkin, it will appear ripe and perfect for months while it slowly rots from the inside out before imploding. The act of transforming a simple, ordinary gourd into something magical accelerates its downfall.

The same could be said for my life.

For twenty-one years I’ve lived quietly in the shadows, avoiding attention, and escaping notice.

I hide in plain sight.

With glasses and average brown eyes below the same dark hair sported by the majority of humans on the planet, there’s nothing extraordinary about me.

Except nothing about me is ordinary.

Not with the last name Wildes in Salem, Massachusetts.

My mother believed she could escape my fate by marrying a normal man.

My father thought he could change me by removing me from Salem and my mother’s history.

Both of them are wrong.

My fate has been sealed since the first time I laid eyes on Madison Bradbury.

She thinks she’s average, but she’s extraordinary to me.

A new love. A curse. Everything can go wrong. ” (description from Goodreads)

I very much enjoyed Daisy Prescott’s story Bewitched. So much so that I went right out and bought this one, the sequel, Spellbound. My eagerness was rewarded by an even more enjoyable read.

Everything that I enjoyed about the first story was present in its sequel. But what made it more enjoyable for me was that the characters were able to develop more. There was also some more development in the ongoing plot points, some of which were only hinted at in Bewitched.

I also found it interesting to be inside of Andrew’s head for this story. He’s the character going through personality changes due to unknown causes. This would have been easy to write from another character’s point of view, but Prescott decided to get into the head of the one dealing with this issue first hand. And she does it well. While reading, I felt how helpless Andrew was to the changes taking place. It added a unique experience to this story that I haven’t seen anywhere else.

I would really like to read more stories from this series and I’m hoping Prescott plans on writing more. I only hope I don’t have to wait too long to read them. Though, I know however long the wait it, it’ll be worth it.
