poetry by Linda M. Crate

little white ghost

i don’t know why
the memory
of you
haunts me
when you ghosted me
i thought there
was something
wrong with me,
but normal people don’t go
crashing through people’s hearts
like wrecking balls
simply for sport;
i realized that there was nothing
wrong with me
even if i am broken
because i am full of love and light
and i am worthy of
being loved in the way that i love and care
which is fully
you threw away a ruby for the pursuit of marbles,
and i hope you like those games you play
because one day you’re going to
be played too;
and i hope you feel as bad as i did and realized
that your crap does smell.

i will achieve

resistance is futile,
i’ve heard,
but i will continue to fight
against reality
until i have conquered it
and my dreams
reign supreme over my life becoming
the very thing people told me they couldn’t
be: real—
i know i have a purpose
a glorious and beautiful future awaits me
i have seen it in my dreams,
and so i will work hard
until it is mine;
then i will fabricate more dreams in this tapestry
of life and achieve them, too;
i have come too far
to simply swallow all my hopes and aspirations—
i have doubt and i have fear,
but i will brave them both and slay every negative
monster in myself until only the positive
remain.

burying you

by Linda M. Crate

instead of burying
the hatchet
i would just like to bury you
beneath the earth where the creepy
crawlies sling their bodies
upon the soil,
and things are too deep down to grow;
that way your bones can no longer
cut
especially not those teeth
whose favorite morsel
were my words
fashioning them into weapons against me—
people told me you were a good person
i ought to have known
when you need an
introduction
you truly aren’t that good because good people
like books need no forward
you were my genesis but not my revelation
i know one day i will find someone greater
someone who will appreciate
my naked soul and heart and my body both,
and won’t laugh at my longing for someone to appreciate
my beautiful mind because he will let me fill
every empty corner of his live with my
fountain of words
a canopy of worlds buried within my bones
unwilling to go until they’ve told
their story;
i’ll bury you in the past
where things go out of sight and my mind
and like dandelion dust i will chase and catch all
my dreams
especially the ones you said i couldn’t.
