Never make a promise you don’t intend to keep…

Mona Lisa St. James made a deathbed promise that she would do anything to save her mother’s art gallery. Unfortunately, not only is The Red painted red, but it’s in the red. She soon realizes she has no choice but to sell it.

Just as she realizes she has no choice but to sell it, a mysterious man comes in after closing time and makes her an offer: He will save The Red if she agrees to submit to him for the period of one year.

The man is handsome, English, and terribly tempting…but surely her mother didn’t mean for Mona to sell herself to a stranger. Then again, she did promise to do anything to save The Red…

The Red is a standalone novel of erotic fantasy from Tiffany Reisz, international bestselling author of The Bourbon Thief and the Original Sinners series.

She lives in Lexington, Kentucky with her husband, author Andrew Shaffer, and two cats. If she couldn’t write, she would die.

Title: Tell Me a Story (The Story episode #1)
Author: Tamara Lush
Rating: 4/5 stars

A flirtatious reading of erotica blossoms into something deep and tender in the steamy Florida heat…

Tell Me a Story…

Emma, a free-spirited bookstore owner in Orlando, keeps her business afloat with innovative ideas. Her most popular evening event is Story Brothel, where customers can pay writers to read aloud to them in a story-time for two, complete with cocktails. Despite the name, the event is usually tame. But things take a steamy turn when a handsome, urbane businessman hires Emma for a session in a private cabana. Daringly, she shares with him a reading of her erotica. Soon both of them are feeling the effects … and Emma’s wondering what kind of lover is underneath his expensive suit.

Caleb may be a billionaire real estate mogul, but he’s never been captivated by a woman as he is by the lovely, quirky Emma. Her rockabilly vintage dresses make him long to strip them off and do very wicked things to her. And her refusal to share her personal life only makes him more curious.

Soon the couple are spending every available moment together. But Emma’s building is in danger of being razed out from under her bookstore … and worse, Caleb may be behind her problems. Can she trust him with her life as she does with her body? Or will the prickly walls built during her harsh past keep them apart? (description from Goodreads)

Tell Me a Story is the first episode in a five part serial. It’s been awhile since I’ve wanted to read a serial novel, and I’m glad I did. This one’s only five installments, and each are a reasonable length. Both are a plus. Along with them all being released at the time I discovered them helped even more.

Like most serials, there wasn’t too much character development in the grand scheme of things here. This aides in my wanting to continue onto the next episodes. There was just enough to get into Emma’s head and start to enjoy her. On the other hand Caleb is still very mysterious and has most to reveal later on. I’m still on the fence about him, as I’m sure the reader should be.

As for the story itself, I’m even more intrigued after reading it than I was starting. The story brothel event at Emma’s bookstore was a fun idea. I really like how that’s worked into the story outside the bookstore, too. I also thought it was great that the author didn’t make the bookstore life out to be glamorous, as I’ve seen done elsewhere. Emma’s facing real-world problems as a business owner and there are big consequences. Lush was able to bring a lot out in episode one, even if a few elements may have hurt because of this. That’s what the rest of the serial is for, after all.

I’m looking forward to reading more about Emma and Caleb. I’m also crossing my fingers a certain other set of characters gets their own story in the future.

#Review: The Grizzly Bear’s Heiress, by Lila Jean

The Grizzly Bear's HeiressTitle: The Grizzly Bear’s Heiress (Billionaire Security Shifters)
Author: Lila Jean
Rating: 4/5 stars

“For the shifters working at Grizzly Bodyguards & Security, every day is life and death.

Good girls don’t date shifters. That’s what Isabelle Hart’s billionaire father says, anyway. But after an attempted kidnapping nearly lands her ransomed in the back of a van, her father is breaking all his own rules to keep her safe. Now a muscled bear shifter is watching over her until the issue is resolved, and she can’t keep her eyes off of him. With her life on the line and no end in sight, Isabelle’s tempted to break whatever rule comes between her and Ryker Edwards… even if it means her father following through on his threat to disown her.

Ever since his best friend Zane Bradley saved his life ten years ago, Ryker Edwards has used his skills as a grizzly bear shifter to complete nearly six hundred missions and protect the wealthy elite keeping Zane’s company afloat. But when Zane calls him in on his day off, Ryker is floored to discover he’s been assigned a new mission: protect a curvy heiress from armed kidnappers. Right then and there, his bear chooses her as its mate. There’s only one problem: she’s off limits. As Ryker fends off attack after attack, Isabelle’s kidnappers get desperate. They call in help from a dangerous source that wants Zane and his entire clan buried six feet under. When the kidnapper’s identity is revealed, Ryker realizes his devotion for Isabelle may have made her nothing but bait in a sinister war between shifters.

CONTENT WARNING: This is a stand-alone grizzly bear shifter romance. It contains smoking hot shifters, lip-bitingly delicious love scenes, naughty language, and a dash of violence to spice things up. Intended for mature audiences.

This novel has an HEA, with NO cliffhanger.” (description from Goodreads.)

fancy lineresizeThis is the second book from Lila Jean’s Billionaire Security Shifters series and I enjoyed it just as much as the first book, The Mountain Lion’s Secretary.

What I liked most about this book is that there were a few more details to help the world building. Some readers might not care as much. Many other readers will probably have read more shifter books and they already know how everything works. Either way, Jean gives just enough detail into how shifters become shifters and some of the attitude humans have toward them in this book. She also does this without beating the reader over the head. It’s just slipped in there, how it should be. There’s nothing mind-blowing, but it builds the world more. It satisfies my curiosity.

Another thing I enjoyed was the action. Compared to the first book, this book is filled with action. While the ending may have been a bit shorter than expected, the rest of the action leading up to the final conflict kept me turning pages. This along with the characters continuing to develop throughout the book made it a great read overall.

Knowing the character who’ll be the focus of the third book, I can’t wait for it to be released. I have no doubt it’ll be just as fun of a read as this one was. It might be even more exciting. We’ll have to see.

The Mountain Lion's SecretaryTitle: The Mountain Lion’s Secretary (Billionaire Security Shifters, #1)
Author: Lila Jean

Rating: 4/5 stars

“For the shifters at Grizzly Bodyguards & Security, every day is life and death.

Mara Warren is desperate. With no job, a room in her parents’ basement, and a mountain of debt right out of college, she takes the first job she can find: as secretary for the elusive billionaire, Zane Bradley. But her new boss is so much more than she bargained for. With his solid body, sexy-as-hell handguns, and the delicious stubble on his jaw, he’s too good to be true. He says he wants her, but Mara has been hurt before. With her already shattered heart on the line, Mara battles between protecting what little self-esteem she has left and letting herself fall head-first into the arms of the most dangerous man in town.

A rugged mountain lion shifter with a knack for sensing danger, Zane Bradley uses the company name as a decoy to hide his inner animal—and to preserve the privacy his animal demands. As if keeping his company running and his shifter employees in line isn’t enough, Zane’s lion is desperately craving a mate… and it wants Mara Warren. But Zane’s billion-dollar empire is threatened when he catches the scent of the werewolf that killed his brother. The murderer has come back to take out the last surviving Bradley brother, and Mara has no idea she just walked right into the line of fire.

CONTENT WARNING: This is a stand-alone mountain lion shifter romance. It contains smoking hot shifters, lip-bitingly delicious love scenes, naughty language, and a dash of violence to spice things up. Intended for mature audiences.

fancy lineresizeBillionaire Shifter Romance. It’s rare that those three words are strung together in a book I’ve read, but it happens. That’s the case for The Mountain Lion’s Secretary, the debut novella from Lila Jean’s Billionaire Security Shifters series. And I have to say, I was surprised to enjoy it as much as I did.

When those words from above are strung together in a sentence, sometimes my eyes roll. I want to be perfectly honest with that. But I think my days of eye rolling are over. (That’s a lesson in judging too fast. Even as open minded as I am, I have my flaws.) One of the things that made me like the book was the balance between the more intimate scenes and the plot not getting bogged down by them. I’ve read books that had too much sex in them for their own good. This isn’t one of them. And it’s well-written and helps in building the relationship between the two main characters.

Those two characters are also part of why I enjoyed the book. This is a short book, so there’s not much room to have developed the characters, but with the space available, the author didn’t lack in too many areas. I was able to get to know Zane and Mara. I was also able to see them grow together romantically and on their own.

There was also some action, which should be expected when you have humans changing into dangerous animals. One of the animals in particular intrigues me and I hope to see that one focused on in future books in the series. It doesn’t quite fit into our modern world (or the “real world” in general), so I’d like to see how Jean expands on her minor world building and maybe shows how they’re possible. (I’m being vague because it’s fun and could ruin the fun if I told you the animal.)

Would I read more books from Lila Jean? That’s a very strong yes. I’m also wanting to explore the shifter romance genre more. Now to find where to start while I wait for more from Jean.

Back from NY. It’s My Birthday. Want #Free Books?

I’m back from my New York trip to be at my brother’s wedding…which I ended up being the best man for. Got back home yesterday afternoon after being awake (aside from a few hours here and there) since Friday morning. So I definitely passed out for a long time last night. But I woke up…and it’s my birthday!

I didn’t get to reading much of what I planned for the plane rides. I had the Kindle filled with a good amount of stories, but I tried a few and couldn’t get into them. I guess I’m just more picky than I thought when stuffed into a plane. But I’ll revisit them down the road. I did start an ARC for Tara Sivec’s new book (comes out soon) and it’s GREAT so far. Just how I knew it’d be. I’ll finish that up this week and show you all my review.

But enough about the past. What about today: my birthday? Well, you could all give me presents (I wouldn’t tell you no). However, I like doing something different on my birthdays. I like to offer my books for free. I do this at other random times of the year and barely anyone takes advantage of the opportunity, but maybe today will be different. Two of my poems and an erotic flash fiction story are always free from me. Today I’m adding my two poetry collections to the list. But TODAY ONLY! They’ll be free for the rest of October! So hurry! All the links you need will be below. Please share it with your friends and even strangers if you know any (ha…ha…I’m so funny).

Story Time Friday: In the Morning Light #erotic #flashfiction

Story Time Friday Banner

This week on Story Time Friday, we’re revisiting my days as a writer of erotica. Maybe you’ve read my story Breakfast in Bed. Around that time I was writing other more erotic stories. Most of those can be found on fellow author’s blogs. I’ll link BIB and these other stories below.

I have a few unfinished stories saved up from that time (almost two years old now) and decided to dust one off. I cleaned it up a bit, if that’s possible for a story of this nature and I actually think it’s not too bad. I hope you’ll feel the same (but feel free to tell me otherwise).

Oh, one more thing. this is a story told in the 2nd person. It’s not everyone’s thing…I know I don’t normally enjoy the 2nd person POV, but it was something to try out at the time. Sort of an experiment for a post a few other authors and myself were going to put together.

CAUTION: This story contains…ok, well to get to the point, if you’re too young, don’t read it. It’s erotica. I has sex in it. Pass it up if that’s not your thing 🙂 I keep STF open to almost all genres and types of writing. This is the first of it’s kind in the series. Don’t say I didn’t warn you 😉

In the Morning Light

by Robert Zimmermann

I woke up and turned onto my side to see you sliding out of bed, unashamed, naked, beautiful. A little morning sun peeking in through the curtains creating a halo of light around your body. I can’t help but smile and wish I had grabbed your hand before you left bed, pulled you back and held you to my lips…all of you…everything to my lips. You turn back and notice I’m awake. There’s a playful smile on your lips and your eyes draw me in, I wake up a bit more, and so does the rest of my body. Your breasts bounce slightly as you turn back around and walk into the nearby bathroom. I have a full view of the tub and I see you bending over slowly, purposefully displaying yourself to me. You glisten in the slender rays of morning light. You’re wet for me.

You turn on the water, testing it’s temperature with your fingers. You spread your legs, resting a hand against the edge of the tub for support. Your wet fingers slip deep inside yourself as the tub fills more. I have my hand grasping my shaft eager to run over and plunge deep into you from behind. But I hold myself there, enjoying your teasing, enjoying your pleasure. Your breasts hang down almost touching the warm waters as you shut off the faucets. You turn to me, lowering yourself over the edge and into the water. You let your legs dangle over the sides, keeping your hand between your legs, but just out of sight, making me how many fingers you use.

I’m stroking furiously. I want to explode. I’m going to explode, at any moment. You reach a hand out, fingers beckoning me to walk toward you. I slowly get up, I don’t stop working on myself. I reach you in the tub, leaning in and you hold your mouth open ready to receive me. I put just my tip in, and you suck hard causing me to climax instantly. I pull out and unload all over your face, your neck, chest. Your fingers furiously working inside yourself, under the water now. Water splashes everywhere and we’re both spent.

You look so beautiful in the afterglow. I lay down in the tub, pulling you over to me. I grab a bar of soap and begin to clean off your body, I hold you seeing your beauty up close, in the morning light.
