New Release: It Happened on Love Street, by @LiaRileyWrites

Another new release to share with you? Yes! It’s a big day for new book releases, and this is one from Lia Riley.

Along with Jessica Park’s release of 180 Seconds (click the title to find out more), Riley’s It Happened on Love Street is another I’m currently reading through for review…about halfway through and really want to find time to finish it. Let’s cross our fingers that I’ll get to both much sooner. They’re worth my time if I can find it.

But you may have more reading time than me, so I hope you’ll consider grabbing a copy of Lia Riley’s new book, check out her backlist, and have a great Tuesday full of reading!

The most romantic place she never wanted to be . . .

Pepper Knight moved to Everland, Georgia, as step one in her plan for a successful legal career. But after this big-city gal’s plans go awry, going home with her tail between her legs isn’t an option. So when the town vet-and her sexy new neighbor-offers Pepper a temporary dog-walking job, she jumps at the chance. No one needs to know that man’s best friend is her worst nightmare . . . or that Everland’s hot animal whisperer leaves her panting.

The last thing Rhett Valentine wants is to be the center of small-town gossip. After his first love left him at the altar, he’s been there, done that. These days, life is simple, just the way he likes it. But sultry southern nights get complicated once sparks fly between him and the knockout next door. When she proposes a sexy, secret fling-all the deliciousness and none of the prying neighbors-it seems too good to be true. And it is. Because Pepper’s determined to leave Love Street, and when she goes, she just might take his heart with her . . .

About the Author:

Lia Riley writes offbeat contemporary romance. After studying at the University of Montana-Missoula, she scoured the world armed only with a backpack, overconfidence and a terrible sense of direction. She counts shooting vodka with a Ukranian mechanic in Antarctica, sipping yerba mate with gauchos in Chile and swilling XXXX with stationhands in Outback Australia among her accomplishments.

A British literature fanatic at heart, Lia considers Mr. Darcy and Edward Rochester as her fictional boyfriends. Her very patient husband doesn’t mind. Much. When not torturing heroes (because c’mon, who doesn’t love a good tortured hero?), Lia herds unruly chickens, camps, beach combs, daydreams about future books, wades through a mile-high TBR pile and schemes yet another trip. Right now, Icelandic hot springs and Scottish castles sound mighty fine.

Then Jesse makes Katie an irresistible offer: act as his girlfriend for six weeks while he promotes his new album. The only catch? Their sizzling make-out sessions will be for the cameras only.

12 steps to finding Mr. Right, composed by dating coach extraordinaire Savannah Gamble

1: Admit to being powerless over your attraction to the wrong type of guy. (Like Lincoln Wells, who broke your heart after an unforgettable one-night stand.)
2: Believe Mr. Right is out there.
3: Take inventory of past mistakes. (See step #1.)
4: Make a list of qualities you want in a man. (Avoid charming baseball players/reason you made these rules in the first place)
5: Take charge of your own life.
6: Learn to love yourself.
7: Sort the hookup guys from the relationship guys. (Avoid a painful brushoff after an amazing night together.)
8: Never, ever settle. (Even if the chemistry is off-the-charts.)
9: Don’t believe you can change a guy. (Once a commitment-phobe, always a commitment-phobe)
10: Communicate your needs.
11: Open your heart & love fully. (Still working on this one…)
12: Don’t ever, ever stray from the steps.

From NYT & USA Today bestselling author comes a new Bleeding Stars stand-alone novel…

She is his strength and he is her weakness. And this time he won’t let her go.

Edie Evans is gorgeous.
Sexy.
Kind.
She’s also the definition of off-limits.
But that didn’t stop me from sneaking into her room to comfort her at night.
But guys like me? We destroy everything, so it should have been no surprise when I destroyed us, too.
The night I sent her running, I thought I’d never see her again.
Until I saw her standing like a vision in the crowd.

Austin Stone is dangerous.
Alluring.
Tempting.
He broke my heart and I refused to give him the chance to do it again.
It’s been years since I’ve seen him, and now I can’t do anything but stare at the gorgeous, tattooed man playing onstage. I should run. I know I should. But like a fool, I run straight back to him.
Our desire is overpowering.
Our need unrelenting.

She is my hope.
He is my weakness.
We should have known a passion this intense would burn us right into the ground.

#Review: One Week Girlfriend, by @MsMonicaMurphy

One Week GirlfriendTitle: One Week Girlfriend (One Week Girlfriend #1)
Author: Monica Murphy
Rating: 5/5 stars

“Temporary. That’s the word I’d use to describe my life right now. I’m temporarily working double shifts—at least until I can break free. I’m temporarily raising my little brother—since apparently our actual mother doesn’t give a crap about either of us. And I always end up as nothing but the temporary girlfriend—the flavor of the week for every guy who’s heard the rumor that I give it up so easily.

At least Drew Callahan, college football legend and local golden boy, is upfront about it. He needs someone to play the part of his girlfriend for one week. In exchange for cash. As if that’s not weird enough, ever since he brought me into his world, nothing really makes sense. Everyone hates me. Everyone wants something from him. And yet the only thing Drew seems to want is . . . me.

I don’t know what to believe anymore. Drew is sweet, sexy, and hiding way more secrets than I am. All I know is, I want to be there for him—permanently.“(description from Goodreads)

I really don’t know what I was expecting out of this book. I went into it mostly blind, never having heard of it. It didn’t take long for it to grow on me, and by the end I knew I’d found a new favorite book.

One of my favorite things about the book was the dual POV. Even after having read a decent amount of books using dual POV, I’m normally on the fence about it. It’s ok for most authors, while some authors might be better off sticking to one character’s POV. In this book, Murphy shows that she knows just how to get the full benefit of the writing technique. The POV switched within chapters, sometimes back and forth a few times, yet each time it switched the story flowed without any snags. That’s very rare in what I read. The dual POV is part of what made this book great.

Along with the POV, the characters who make up the perspectives were just as great to read. Both Drew and Fable have so much depth to them and don’t really shy away from letting the reader in to their thoughts. While there are big secrets that aren’t revealed right away, enough it let out from the characters to not frustrate the reader awaiting the reveal. There also wasn’t a huge lack of communication between the characters like I’ve been annoyed with in other books. Yes, there are things left unsaid to cause conflict, but not to the point where I was yelling at the characters to just say something and be somewhat mature about how to deal with people. Both Drew and Fable have good heads on their shoulders, while still having room to grow.

I’m looking forward to the next book in the series, to continue reading about this characters. I know there’s much more that’s about to take place with them and I’m eager to see how it all works out.

#Review: An Officer and a Rebel, by @CindiMadsen

An Officer and a RebelTitle: An Officer and a Rebel (Accidentally in Love #2.5)
Author: Cindi Madsen
Rating: 5/5 stars

Doing the wrong thing has never felt so right…

The last person police officer Nate Walsh expected to discover stranded in a snowstorm is his brother’s ex—and former town rebel—Kelsey Cooper. His complete opposite in every way, Kelsey’s the girl he never allowed himself to want. But when she agrees to stay with him until the storm passes, he definitely finds himself wanting the gorgeous, tattooed woman. Too bad Nate’s sure his brother is still in love with her…

Kelsey had only meant to drive through her tiny hometown, not end up spending time there. With a cop. But despite her issues with authority figures, even she can admit Mr. Serious looks pretty hot in his uniform. Unfortunately, she’s sworn off relationships—and she’ll never be the girl for a nice guy.“(description from Goodreads)

This is my first time reading Cindi Madsen and I can already tell I’ll be tracking down all her other books to read. This may be a novella, but it hit all the right buttons for me.

It seems I’m a sucker for winter romances, and An Officer and a Rebel was no exception. I was reading this one during a hot summer day, but was easily transported into the middle of a snowstorm. Madsen wrote such a great setting for the book, reading that alone made me love the book.

But what’s a romance without great characters? The setting isn’t the only thing Madsen’s great at writing. I really enjoyed reading Kelsey and Nate’s story. They’re great characters, know their flaws, and felt so realistic. Everything in the story felt natural and helped me get sucked in early on and root for them until the finish line.

This Madsen novella was a great read. It didn’t feel to short or too long. Just the perfect length. And if it’s a taste of what the other Accidentally in Love series has in store for me, I may have a new favorite author waiting for me.

Susan Hatler’s Treasured Dreams series is almost done. This story, An Unexpected Joy, is the sixth installment in Holly and Dave’s life story. It’s also one that caught me by surprise in a few ways.

What I enjoyed about this story is that Holly was the one driving the story (and series story arc) forward. In the last few, Holly was the one in for a surprise with what was going to happen by the end of the story. Now, Holly had the chance to hold all the cards. It was a nice change of pace to have Dave be out of the loop.

From the title of the seventh story, I can tell what the focus will probably be. At the same time, there’s something unresolved (not in a cliff hanger way, don’t worry) in this story that will most likely carry over to An Unexpected Baby that I’m looking forward to reading about. That’s making me want it to be February even sooner.
