Title: Shame on You (Fool Me Once #1)Shame on You
Author: Tara Sivec

Rating: 5/5 stars

“War veteran Kennedy O’Brien is in the business of sticking it to the man—or at least any man who tries to cross a woman. After she returned home from Afghanistan and caught her husband in bed with the nanny, Kennedy lost her faith in men and started Fool Me Once Investigations with her two best friends. After all, there’s no better bounty hunter than a woman scorned.

When Kennedy takes a case to slap cuffs on a bail jumper turned dog-napper, she figures it’ll be an easy paycheck. But trouble has a way of finding Kennedy. Enter the last man on the planet she’d willingly choose as a partner: her cheating ex-husband’s best friend, Griffin Crawford.

As gorgeous as he is unwelcome, Griffin has always had a thing for Kennedy, and after keeping quiet about her ex’s cheating, he’ll do anything to earn back her trust. Whether or not she wants to admit it, Kennedy will need help as the case of the Chihuahua thief spirals out of control. Griffin may be just her man—in more ways than one.” (description from Goodreads)

Shame on You…where should I start with Shame on You? Well, for one, there are many puns I could write into this review from the title and I’ll do my best to not put them in here. They wouldn’t live up to the humor that Sivec wrote into this book, anyway. A good way for me to describe this book is to think of the Chocolate Lovers series, add some guns and add a little more seriousness to the mix. It wasn’t as outrageous as Sivec CL series, but it also didn’t need to be, either.

I was pleased with seeing another type of book from this author. Aside from the series I mentioned above, I’ve also read Watch Over Me, which was a very emotional and serious novel. From that, I knew Sivec had the ability to write in many different genres and could write very different stories. Shame on You branches off into yet another direction. Kennedy O’Brien is a sexy, snarky, and stubborn ex-Army turned bounty hunter who won’t take crap from anyone. Then there’s Griffin, one of her best friends, though recently he’s on her shit list, and their lives are thrown together again.

That’s only part of the conflict in this book. There’s also a bail jumper to catch. From the little we get to encounter McFadden, he’s a great character for was ways he can slip through Kennedy’s fingers. He’s just one of the cast of characters this book has to offer.

I was a little curious about Sivec being able to get a great story in the 140ish pages, but it turned out to not be an issue. This book might be short, but it’s a fast-paced ride that packs a punch all over. It was hard to put down. I was a little disappointed that it ended, but not by how it ended. Sivec grabbed me early on and I know I’ll be a fan of this three-book series just from reading Shame on You. I’m looking forward to seeing what Shame on Me has in store, in May.
