Shame on You…where should I start with Shame on You? Well, for one, there are many puns I could write into this review from the title and I’ll do my best to not put them in here. They wouldn’t live up to the humor that Sivec wrote into this book, anyway. A good way for me to describe this book is to think of the Chocolate Lovers series, add some guns and add a little more seriousness to the mix. It wasn’t as outrageous as Sivec CL series, but it also didn’t need to be, either.
I was pleased with seeing another type of book from this author. Aside from the series I mentioned above, I’ve also read Watch Over Me, which was a very emotional and serious novel. From that, I knew Sivec had the ability to write in many different genres and could write very different stories. Shame on You branches off into yet another direction. Kennedy O’Brien is a sexy, snarky, and stubborn ex-Army turned bounty hunter who won’t take crap from anyone. Then there’s Griffin, one of her best friends, though recently he’s on her shit list, and their lives are thrown together again.
That’s only part of the conflict in this book. There’s also a bail jumper to catch. From the little we get to encounter McFadden, he’s a great character for was ways he can slip through Kennedy’s fingers. He’s just one of the cast of characters this book has to offer.
I was a little curious about Sivec being able to get a great story in the 140ish pages, but it turned out to not be an issue. This book might be short, but it’s a fast-paced ride that packs a punch all over. It was hard to put down. I was a little disappointed that it ended, but not by how it ended. Sivec grabbed me early on and I know I’ll be a fan of this three-book series just from reading Shame on You. I’m looking forward to seeing what Shame on Me has in store, in May.
And books 2 and 3 are on pre-order now!
