#Review: Kro, by @JasonCMcIntyre

Title: Kro (a Night Walk Men short story)
Author:  Jason McIntyre
Rating: 5/5 stars

Companion story to the Night Walk Men Saga! This short story involves a character from the new novel “The Devil’s Right Hand”but it can be read independently.

No one knows who the Night Walk Men really are. They are unseen, unknown.

“Kro” is an all-new story straight from the timeline of the forthcoming novel, “The Devil’s Right Hand” and introduces a character sure to become a favourite within the Night Walk Men universe.

Protege in a burgeoning drug empire, James Wong is left for dead on a wet Vancouver street. He unburdens himself before the end and begins to accept that his hopes and dreams will never be realized. He’s either going to get out of this dangerous line of work in a body bag or he’s going to have a run-in with a saving angel who has “black hair down past her shoulder in a long flat dagger, hiding her eyes.”

*Please note that this review was actually written about a year ago, and for some reason never made it onto my blog. As you may know, I’ve since read a few others in this series.*

This is my first time reading McIntyre’s work and I was very pleased with it. I haven’t read The Night Walk Men which this story is closely related to, but I didn’t feel that I needed to do so either.

In this story I was hooked early on by the characters and was kept glued to my e-reader as the story unfolded. Since it was a fairly short read, it was more like a teaser. That normally doesn’t sit well with me, but I think it was also a great story by itself and that the tease was just an added bonus.

I’m looking forward to reading this author’s upcoming novel The Devil’s Right Hand that follows in the same world as Kro does. I enjoyed his writing a good amount.
