Today I have big news for all my readers. I’ve been working on a collection of poetry for…well for too long now. But luckily it’s finally shaping up to be something worth reading. I’m still editing/re-writing (and re-writing) about half the collection…but it’s a good start I think. Yesterday afternoon I did a small little photo-shoot because the weather was finally perfect for it. Then I played around with cover ideas I had. After figuring out what I wanted a friend of mine (who I’ll name later so you don’t pester her to see the cover just yet) helped me make it AWESOME because she’s great at doing some cover magic. In doing all this I also finalized the name of my collection. I also won’t be telling you the title
The reveal of both the title and cover will come soon, but I want to be more ready to get into the final stages for publishing before the world knows too much.
Because I can’t give you just a tease about a cover and title, I felt like I should give you a new poem to read. Here is a poem I just finalized (I hope, since nothing’s really ever final until it’s published). It’s called “Cold Morning On The Lake Shore.” It seems fitting since yesterday has a cold morning (and cold day never getting above 50 degrees) and rainy, dreary weather. I hope you enjoy, and feel free to leave any feedback good or bad here on the post
Cold Morning On The Lake Shore
Standing alone
on the rocky shore, I see
low clouds form
just above the water.
Here I am, breathing
the windblown spirits,
embraced by the mist.
My vision blurs.
The early morning chills my bones
but the feeling isn’t unwanted.
As cool moisture passes through
my lips, I taste the morning.
It warms my heart.
I rejoice inside.
Here we go: epic feedback. Immediately when I started reading the poem, I already had this picture in my head of a brisk fall morning where everything is peaceful and the lake looks like glass as it is so still. I felt like you did a good job with providing the perfect mental image for the reader. When you mentioned ‘taste the morning’ I felt that this was true too. There’s something about the autumn air that is almost tangible especially if its early in the morning, like there is something crisp about the air. As summer ends and fall begins its a pleasant reminder that even with the goodbye of summer, there is something about the cold that is inviting. Until it just gets too crazy cold and you wish it was summer again. haha Even though it was short and sweet, it was a powerful poem. Great job and I can’t wait to read more!!
That is epic feedback. Might be one of the longest comments I’ve ever gotten
It’s great that I was able to help bring that image to you and that you were able to feel all that from just a few lines.
Thanks for reading and telling me what you thought
As someone who is living in Florida and working on some poetry of my own, I loved this. I actually felt like for a short time I was relieved of this horrible heat and could actually feel the coolness. And for that, thank you. I’m looking forward to reading the rest of your collection.
I experienced your poem with all five senses! RIGHT ON!
Great poem! Makes me think about when I used to live in Iran near the coast. Reading this brought me back.
